Robbinsdale

Located just 15 minutes outside of Minneapolis, Robbinsdale has a small town feel with the convenience of a big city. Nestled in the northwest corner of Hennepin County, this city offers a variety of single-family homes, plenty of green space and two area lakes. While the city may be small, the spirit of this community is evident to anyone who passes through.

As you stroll along the downtown sidewalks, the height of the buildings allows you to peer inside shop windows while the street is just narrow enough for you to say hello to the person passing by on the other side. Overall, the close layout reinforces the tight-knit vibe of this community.

Robbinsdale005

Speaking of a small town vibe, the city is able to maintain its charm by being selective about which businesses they allow downtown. For instance, Hackenmueller Meats is an old-time meat market that has served the residents of Robbinsdale with choice cut meats for more than 120 years. Known for their specialty sausages, this hometown business has built a reputation as one of the premier butcher shops in the metro area.

Robbinsdale015

Likewise, the mural found in Robbinsdale Plaza adds a splash of color to this historic downtown. However, the city has plans to update this mural with a design by local artist, Shawn McCann, at the beginning of September.

Hungry? Well, you won’t find any chain restaurants in this historic district. Luckily, Robbinsdale offers a variety of unique restaurants including Pig Ate My Pizza, a pig-themed pizza pie shop and Nonna Rosa’s, a classic Italian restaurant with some famous fans (we ran into the mayor of Robbinsdale, Regan Murphy, enjoying a late lunch). However, if you are seeking a more upscale experience you may want to give Travail a whirl. While the menu is written on a simple chalkboard, the culinary experience to be had is quite the opposite. At the restaurant, which was recently named one of Bon Appetit’s nominees for America’s Best New Restaurant, you can embark on a culinary adventure while sampling a ten-course tasting menu. Though Travail may be on the pricier side, they do offer date nights on Wednesdays and Thursdays with the tasting menu at a reduced price.

The citizens here are so passionate about their local fare that they even started “The Birdtown Club.” On the first Friday of each month, residents meet at one of Robbinsdale’s bars or restaurants as a way to connect and reinforce their love for the city.

Robbinsdale024

If you are in search of something more leisurely, you should check out one of the 14 parks in the city, including Lakeview Terrace Park. This sunny park adjacent to Crystal Lake lends itself to a variety of recreational activities with its baseball diamond, tennis courts, playground, numerous walking paths and opportunities for boating and swimming.

Additionally, the schools in Robbinsdale are known to be both dynamic and diverse. Both Robbinsdale Armstrong and Robbinsdale Cooper high schools repeatedly earn national acclaim for academic excellence. They offer one of the largest AP programs in the state, in addition to boasting a state and nationally recognized orchestra program.

Robbinsdale011

If an unexpected accident happens, look no further than North Memorial Medical Center. Featuring a Level I Trauma Center as well as cancer treatment, heart and stroke care, orthopedics, and women and children’s services, you are sure to be in good hands. Accordinglythey have won numerous awards including the Patient Safety Excellence Award for five consecutive years. Moreover, North Memorial Medical Center was the only hospital in Minnesota to receive Healthgrades’ recognition as one of America’s 50 Best Hospitals in 2014.

For those looking to become a part of the community, the housing market in Robbinsdale offers a variety of options. From charming historic homes, town homes and newer two-story homes, this town suits a wide variety of styles and budgets. Even more, it is evident that Robbinsdale is a place were many choose to plant their roots as 72% of the 14,000 who live there are homeowners. Overall, Robbinsdale is a city that prides itself on their high quality of life and works hard to promote relationships among its residents that last a lifetime. If you are looking for small town charm with big city convenience, Robbinsdale is the place for you.

Apple Valley, Minnesota

While countless Minnesotans have travelled to and from Apple Valley solely to visit the Minnesota Zoo, those who decided to stick around to investigate the city further have found that there’s plenty more to be discovered. This Dakota County city on the southern side of the Twin Cities Metro provides residents with a selection of respected schools and a wide variety of shopping, restaurants, parks, entertainment venues and community activities.

District 196 is widely considered to be one of the best school districts in Minnesota. Eastview High School was named the fifth best high school in the state in a U.S. News and World Report with other several other Apple Valley schools and district schools ranking high in the list. The district also has a strong sports program and the Eastview Athletic Association offers a wide range of programs, camps and clinics to better assist athletes in just about every sport.

The School of Environmental Studies, sometimes referred to as the “Zoo School” because of its proximity to and partnership with the Minnesota Zoo, offers a unique opportunity for students in ISD 196. Here, students in grades 11 and 12 focus on mentorship and internship programs developed through the Minnesota Zoo and the community, studying sustainability and the environment through project-based learning.

Another great outlet for teens is the Apple Valley Teen Center. Here, students can participate for free with a school ID in activities like open basketball, air hockey, table tennis, or watch movies and play video games all within the center. The center, managed, programmed and staffed by the Apple Valley Parks and Recreation Department, provides teens with a fun and safe environment to interact with other teens. Plenty of activity outdoors can be found close by as well with ice rinks, a skate park, basketball courts, tennis courts and baseball fields all within walking distance from the center.

One of the favorite summertime destinations amongst locals is The Apple Valley Family Aquatic Center, which features a sprawling landscape of slides, tubes and pools for splashing with friends and family in the summer sun. The center even features a wave pool and a lazy river.

The 53 public parks in Apple Valley also offer plenty of room for fun with features like sand volley-ball courts, baseball diamonds, skating rinks, horseshoe pitches, tennis courts and playgrounds. The lakes in Apple Valley also offer scenic settings for picnics, fishing and swimming.

Valleywood Golf Course, considered one of the best public golf courses in the Twins Cities area, provides golfers with a scenic course stretched across 190 acres and 11 ponds. The new clubhouse, opened in September of 2012, includes access to an outdoor patio, restaurant, full bar and a large banquet space for hosting events.

While the Mall of America is just five minutes north, there’s no shortage of opportunities for shopping in one of the many retail stores or dining in one of the restaurants in downtown Apple Valley. One of the local favorites, Bogart’s Place, apart from being a restaurant and bar, offers patrons everything from karaoke, Texas Hold’em and bowling inside to volleyball or drinks on the patio outside.

A recently added $112 million rapid-transit bus system has added even more accessibility for residents of Apple Valley, a contributing factor when the city landed at number 17 on the list of America’s Top 50 Small Towns in Money Magazine. With a range of affordable homes, a combination of scenic lakes, trails and parks and easy access to shopping and dining, it’s no wonder why.

Edina

Edina 74 Although Edina is most well-known for its status as the wealthiest suburb in Minnesota, the city of almost 50,000 people has many other great aspects that are often overlooked. Committed to maintaining a tight-knit community feeling, the city puts on many popular annual events, such as the Edina Art Fair and Taste of Edina, as well as weekly and monthly gatherings that bring together people from all walks of life in fun and relaxed settings.

For starters, Edina is a good place to express your creative side. Each year, the esteemed Edina Art Fair is held in the 50th and France district, and it draws 300+ artists and more than 165,000 visitors alike. The annual event is celebrated as Minnesota’s first official art fair of the year (and an unofficial kickoff of summer festival season), and it holds the distinction of being the second largest art fair in the state (the biggest is in Uptown). The city also hosts the Fall into the Arts Festival each September at Centennial Lakes Park, with 200 exhibitors and crowds that can reach 20,000 Metropolitans.

To further fulfill the city’s goal of beautifying the community through displays of public art, several sculptures can be found around the city year-round, including the popular bronze piece “Reflecting on Friendship,” which depicts two young children chasing bubbles. The Edina Art Center, conveniently located adjacent to the Edina Aquatic Center in Rosland Park, offers classes to students of all ages in mediums ranging from painting to pottery to ceramics, helping to foster the community’s creativity.

Edina 15

Edinans are fortunate enough to experience a high quality of life, with more than 1500 acres of park space for children and families (including four-legged members) to enjoy. Van Valkenburg Park has a designated off-leash area, where playful pooches are free to run to their little hearts’ content. Lewis Park, meanwhile, is home to the city’s only “Edible Playground,” a communal vegetable garden that is tended by volunteers and is meant to inspire children to be active and to promote healthful living. Residents also have access to a community garden, located in Yorktown Park.

Edina 11

Speaking of a high quality of life, the city has not one, but two upscale country clubs – Edina Country Club and Interlachen, the latter of which occupies a coveted spot along the new stretch of premier Interlachen Boulevard. Over the years, Interlachen has played host to several major professional tournaments, most recently the U.S. Women’s Open in 2008. In addition to the renowned golf course, the Club also offers top-notch amenities, including a pool, clay and hard surface tennis courts, and a wellness center. For those who prefer to spend less green to play on the green, there is the Braemar Golf Course, located in the southwesternmost corner of the city. Braemar Park also houses the Golf Dome, a facility that’s open during the winter months for golfers who won’t let a little bit (okay, a lot) of snow stop them from perfecting their swing, and the Braemar Ice Arena.

Edina 04

Within the 16-square miles of the city, there are 45 (count ’em!) distinct neighborhoods, each with its own unique flair. Morningside, for example, was previously a “streetcar suburb” and was a separate village until its reincorporation into the city in 1966. Now it is home to some of the most beautiful (and expensive) houses in the area. The Country Club District, unsurprisingly, is known for its huge, extravagant homes. It is also a historic district, recognized as one of the nation’s first planned communities and for its majority of homes that are nearing 100 years old. While most of Edina’s homes are much younger, the median listing price for homes throughout the city is steady at almost $500,000. This is actually quite reasonable considering the median household income is over $80,000 per year.

Edina boasts some of the top public schools in the state, with Edina High School repeatedly being ranked among the best academic and athletic institutions in the nation. Having won more than 100 state championships and spawning the careers of numerous professional athletes, Sports Illustrated ranked the school as having the 8th best athletics program in the country in 2005. 95% of the school’s seniors go on to college, which contributes to the 86% of Edina residents who have completed some form of post-secondary education. These numbers help explain the city’s low unemployment rate and high concentration of those in healthcare and other professional and technical industries.
With so many doctors around, it is fitting that Edina would be home to Fairview Southdale Hospital, a facility that has received numerous national awards for its excellent service. Fairview’s emergency wing is currently undergoing a multi-million dollar renovation that is expected to be completed by the summer of 2015.

Edina 48

Shopping is superb in the suburb, offering the universally-pleasing Southdale Center, the ritzy Galleria, and the 50th and France neighborhood. The latter, which serves as Edina’s downtown, is known for its trendy and chic retail stores as well as its wide array of one-of-a-kind restaurants, such as Red Cow and Pig & Fiddle, both local favorites. Edina is serviced by multiple bus lines, most notably Route 6, which brings riders from the University of Minnesota and Downtown to all of the city’s hotspots, including a major transit hub at Southdale Center. But with multiple automobiles per household and an average work commute of 20 minutes, it is safe to say that most Metro Transit users are probably out-of-towners looking to get a taste of the vibrant and diverting city that Edinans are lucky enough to call home.

Northeast Minneapolis

10321590284_b7a14cab04_zReferred to as Minneapolis’ first neighborhood, Northeast Minneapolis was originally founded as the City of St. Anthony in 1855, 12 years before Minneapolis.  Since then, Northeast, or “Nordeast” as it has come to be called by locals, has grown into one of the most vibrant and eclectic areas of Minneapolis.

10321584694_07e4eb166c_z

With a rich tradition of northern and eastern European immigrants, homes in many parts of Northeast are typically smaller and more condensed, reflecting the long history of the working class neighborhood. While the homes may be a bit smaller than those in other parts of Minneapolis, each older home seems to have its own unique story to tell, giving the neighborhood a charming, affable quality. Newer areas of development are also available for those who are looking snag a spot near the river in one of the many upscale condos, townhomes or apartments.

10321610735_a7dea1905d_z

Northeasterners have the convenience of choosing from many different outdoor activities without leaving the neighborhood. Northeast Park provides several baseball diamonds, football and soccer fields, tennis courts, sand volleyball courts, horseshoe pits and the Jim Lupient Water Park. The park is also home to the Grand Rounds Miniature Golf Course for golfers looking to work on their short game before heading to the 18-hole golf course at the Columbia Golf Club.

10321632445_654dcb80c5_z10321639526_65594cb4c1_z

With such an abundance of artists in Minneapolis, Northeast has taken to filling entire warehouses with them, providing plenty of space to rent and create in studio settings throughout the neighborhood.  The Northeast Minneapolis Arts Association has more than 700 members alone, fashioning everything from jewelry to paintings to clothing. Events like the annual Art-A-Whirl, greet visitors with an open and free look at the work of over 500 artists in more than 70 locations in studio buildings, art galleries, restaurants, storefronts and homes. The weekend-long event is perfect for those looking for local art to proudly display at home.

10321626576_8353698862_z

One of the most uniquely “Nordeast” spots in town is Kramarczuk’s. A one-stop shop for anything and everything that’s edible and from East Europe, Kramarczuk’s is a delicatessen, bakery and restaurant all in one sausage-scented setting, serving up imported and house-made food you’d be hard-pressed to find anywhere outside of Europe, or Target Field where they serve up Kramarczuk’s acclaimed house-made sausages.

10321594194_2813df485f_z

A bar that’s been a longtime favorite amongst locals to show off to unsuspecting out-of-towners is Nye’s Polonaise Room. Esquire Magazine named Nye’s the “Best Bar In America” in 2006 and again in 2010 as one of the “15 Bars Every Man Should Drink In Before He Dies.” A completely unique experience, Nye’s is a Northeast institution that is not to be missed, especially if the “World’s Most Dangerous Polka Band” is on stage.

10321603165_ff31a4e8d5_z

With no shortage of spots to hangout, you’ll find “Nordeasterners” eating at the landmark steakhouse Jax Café to trying out the acclaimed sushi at the buzz worthy Masu Sushi & Robata, or sipping on coffee at the new Spyhouse Coffee Shop location or head downstairs and you’ll find others sipping on a beer at the newly opened taproom of 612 Brew, or walk down the street and you’ll… well… you get the idea.

Greater East Side Saint Paul

10057107425_df6f3d75df_z

Just minutes from downtown St. Paul, the Greater East Side neighborhood provides the convenience of being close to a metropolitan city while still offering the comforts of a suburban community. And it only takes a single drive down White Bear Avenue to quickly discover why. Serving as the “main street” of the neighborhood, White Bear Avenue is the epicenter of Greater East side, offering all of the essential community traits – here you’ll find local shops and restaurants as well as libraries, medical offices, community centers, schools and homes.

10057216043_724562b5a7_z

One vital business on White Bear Ave. is the El Quetzal Market, the perfect place for those looking to make an authentic Mexican meal. And if cooking isn’t on the agenda, the next-door Tio Santiago Bakery offers customers a wide array of colorful and mouthwatering baked goods waiting to be devoured.

Greater East Side St. Paul offers a great community for families looking for a strong and varied school system. With seven public schools, two charter schools and two private schools, there’s certainly no shortage of options for parents when it comes to finding a nearby school in the community.

10057102685_905bfa430b_z

The Dari-ette Drive-In on Minnehaha Avenue offers visitors the rare experience of enjoying authentic Italian food without ever having to set foot outside the car you drove up in. The 1950s style diner has been serving the neighborhood for 60 years, offering a nostalgic look into the past while offering a menu section of Italian eats you wouldn’t normally expect to find at a drive-in. While already a hit with the locals, Dari-ette Drive-In has recently gotten some national attention when it was named one of the 12 best drive-in restaurants in the country by digital lifestyle magazine, Thrillist National.

1235117_302364686572056_1420355950_n

Another acclaimed destination for anyone looking to find a menu item uniquely local is The Juicy Lucy at the 5-8 Club. An absolute rite of passage for any hamburger connoisseur, this cheese-infused creation can be found in all its glory at the 5-8 Club in the southeast corner of Greater East Side St. Paul. Recently, the restaurant’s nearby Minneapolis location was even ranked as #1 on the Travel Channel’s Chowdown Countdown. (But we think the “Jucy Lucy” at Matt’s Bar is also great, in case anyone felt like we were taking sides here).

10070531706_8a2e3df888_z

When not dining out, residents can often be found fishing off the pier on the regularly stocked Beaver Lake or walking on the nearby paths. The area also features a nearby park, grills and areas to play volleyball and baseball with a serene backdrop of the lake.

10057208333_de5cf4e153_z

The majority of homes in Greater East Side St. Paul were built after 1940 and are moderately priced, mid-sized and single-family units, making the homes ideal for the many younger families in the area. While many parts of the Greater East Side are newer than much of St. Paul, there are a few historic homes that have been kept well maintained and give the neighborhood of Greater East Side St. Paul a distinct blend of history and modernism.

Uptown, Minneapolis

Uptown is young, potent and stimulating. Nestled between downtown Minneapolis and the Lake Calhoun/Harriet/Isles loop, Uptown offers lively nightlife, scenic leisure, and a diverse community all in the shadow of the Minneapolis skyline. From the bustling Lagoon Avenue area to the quiet Kenwood neighborhood, Uptown manages to capture the full range of what makes Minneapolis great without diluting any of the individual aspects.

An abundance of restaurants can be found in the Uptown neighborhood, from a blend of Asian, Latin American and Caribbean cuisine at Chino Latino, to familiar American style dining at Uptown Tavern, to hole-in-the wall coffee shops such as Uncommon Grounds and Dogwood Coffee Bar. On the weekends, troops of young Minneapolitans flock to Lagoon Avenue to eat, drink, and mingle on Stella’s Fish Cafe rooftop and the basement of Williams Pub & Peanut Bar, all within a three-block radius.

It is not uncommon to see new construction efforts in Uptown, where properties are constantly being updated to be larger and more innovative. These new developments aim to attract new residents to buildings where they can live directly above up and coming shops and restaurants. As the neighborhood grows, so does the value of real estate. Condos and apartments continue to appreciate in value as the Uptown neighborhood continues to remake itself into a destination that’s constantly fresh and new.

On the western side of Uptown lies Lake Calhoun, Lake Harriet, and Lake of the Isles, all of which are a popular destination for exercisers, beach-goers and sailors. Lake Calhoun, the closest lake to the heart of Uptown features a sailing school for young sailors, boat rentals for a leisurely afternoon paddle, and extensive biking and jogging trails that circles the three lakes. Whether you are looking for shopping in a bustling commercial district or a quiet place to relax or exercise, Uptown can provide it all.

It is no surprise that such a unique neighborhood spawned one of the most exciting and creative music scenes in the Midwest. Located on the 2400 block of Hennepin Avenue, Fifth Element acts as the retail center for Rhymesayers Entertainment. Since 1995, Rhymesayers has consistently been the leading voice of Minnesota Hip-Hop culture with artists ranging from Atmosphere to Brother Ali to Aesop Rock signed to the label. Fifth Element serves as their retail outlet, which also features in-store performances by label artists. From around the Midwest, Fifth Element is known as one of the best destinations in Minnesota for quality vinyl, fashion and concert tickets.

Being in the heart of Minneapolis has its advantages for commuters of Uptown. Eight major bus lines run through the Uptown Transit Center, where riders have the option to store their bicycles safely and warm up when the weather is cold. Additionally, residents of Uptown can be seen biking or riding Segways on bike trails that run throughout the Twin Cities. For those who don’t own a bike or can’t store them, Nice Ride Minnesota offers an annual bike rental program for only $65 ($55 for students). Bikes can be rented from or returned to any of the 170 stations located across Minneapolis and St. Paul.
As the season changes, Uptown offers a wide range of events to match. In the summer, the Uptown Art Fair attracts visitors from across the Midwest, where attendees can admire artwork in almost any medium imaginable (painting, ceramics, glass blowing, jewelry, sculptures, etc), eat great local cuisine from AZ Canteen and Falafel King, have drinks from Schells’ Beer Garden or Barefoot Wine, and listen to live music all afternoon.
During the fall, Wheels of Italy attracts Italian automobile enthusiasts and owners where they can show off their Lamborghinis, Ferraris, and Ducati’s for an afternoon right next to Lake Calhoun. Since its inception, Wheels of Italy has been a centerpiece for Italian automobile and cycle culture and has allowed the community to become one of the largest of its kind in the Midwest.
During the winter, Minneapolis residents line up at the Lake Harriet Band Shell for the annual Valentines Day 5K Run. Participants can adorn their race outfit with “single”, “taken” or “its complicated” labels, allowing them to easily announce their relationship status to other runners who can later offer to buy them a drink at Cooper’s Irish Pub.
In the spring the Calhoun Area Residents Action Group hosts their annual Super Sale where the Uptown neighborhood comes together for one massive garage sale at Bryant Square Park. There shoppers search for the perfect unique used item and sellers work to clean out their cluttered closets while making some good money.

For those looking to find a stimulating environment that combines wild nightlife with serene natural beauty, Uptown, Minneapolis is the perfect place to settle into. In a city where people are constantly in motion, Uptown serves as a center for the younger generation of Minneapolitans, where they have the best of both urban living and natural escape. As Uptown continues to grow and thrive, it is clear that it will retain its balance of calming neighborhoods and exhilarating commercial districts.

Downtown St. Paul, Minnesota

St. Paul’s roots trace back to America’s fur-trading days. Originally known as Pig’s Eye, or Pig’s Eye Landing, the city received the name after French Canadian fur trader turned bootlegger, Pierre “Pig’s Eye” Parrant established a popular tavern there. Parrant had to move his operation from Fort Snelling after military officers banned distillers from the land which the fort controlled, so he moved about five miles downstream to a cave where he found a spring that would allow him to brew alcohol. There he established Pig’s Eye Tavern, which gained popularity.

As Pig’s Eye grew in settlers, travelers, and traders, French priest Father Lucien Galtier established the Log Chapel of Saint Paul (which later became the first location of the Cathedral of Saint Paul). In celebration of the new chapel, and condemnation of Pig’s Eye’s dubious founding, Galtier gave the city a new name: St. Paul.

Downtown St. Paul skyline

Today, St. Paul is still known to downtown locals as Pig’s Eye, although it has changed very much since its early beginnings. Many downtown condos and apartments were converted from historical factories, offices or warehouses. The most recent changes have happened in the Lowertown neighborhood of downtown St. Paul (located on the eastern edge), where artists are moving into studios. During the summer in Lowertown, the St. Paul farmers’ market is a popular locale.

Lowertown apartments

Downtown is also home to the state capitol, the Minnesota Wild hockey team and many museums, businesses and restaurants. Last month, St. Paul was voted as the Best Romantic North American Getaway in a poll by USA Today. “St. Paul is so romantic, with the history in the city and the architecture,” said marketing manager for Visit St. Paul Lisa Huber.

Minnesota State Capitol

The Cathedral of Saint Paul has been a consistent part of that history, and was the location of the Red Bull Crashed Ice even last month. The annual event draws in over 100,000 people, not only from the state of hockey, but from all over the US and Canada to watch heats of four skaters rocket down the 400-meter track full of obstacles.

Cathedral of St. Paul

With so much to do downtown and its continued growth, it’s no wonder why people choose to live within the city. Housing in St. Paul is much less expensive than the equivalent in St. Paul’s sister city, Minneapolis, and it has become a very attractive place to live for urbanites.

Minnetonka

10210451656_7831abb94d_c

Whether it’s exploring the waters of colossal Lake Minnetonka or shopping at one of the 140 retail stores at Ridgedale Center, it’s no wonder why an increasing number of Minnesotans have chosen Minnetonka as their place to call home.
Besides serving as an entry point to the massive Lake Minnetonka, Gray’s Bay, the only part of Lake Minnetonka within the City of Minnetonka, is also the source of the Minnehaha Creek. The site is also a shoreline restoration are where invasive plants have been removed and replaced with boulders, logs and native flora to act as a natural filter to help preserve wildlife and water quality. This entry point is a great destination for those with canoes looking to get away from any motors, acting almost like a metro-area boundary waters for anyone feeling up to a winding and scenic 22 mile trek to Minnehaha Falls.

10210181584_5dd11dc8d6_cThose looking to keep their feet on land will find plenty of beautiful scenery as well. A drive or walk along the coast of Gray’s Bay acts as a tour of some of the most stunning homes in the metro area. With residential property on the lake at such a commodity, buyers are more than willing to shell out some extra money to be in such a prime location on one of Minnesota’s most famous lakes. Not that the homes themselves need any more reason to be on the pricier end. With many of the lake homes valued at over three million dollars, the opportunity to find luxury real estate is there for those diligent enough to snag one of these gorgeous homes.

10210391665_0b24865964_cA local favorite, the Gold Nugget Tavern and Grille, offers an interesting blend of a down-home bar and fine dining. The food is all made from scratch and presented with as much care as you’d see at an expensive fine restaurant. The history of the Gold Nugget is also very telling of how valued it is in the community. It was only reopened after some convincing by the neighborhood after the owner died. After a change in location and an upgrade to what the waitress says was considered “a dive,” the Gold Nugget continues to live on, offer great food and serve as the only bar in the Glen Lake neighborhood.
A great resource for residents is the Minnetonka Script, a newsletter that offers a wide variety of programs and services for those over the age of 55. From a wine making class to practicing Tai Chi to extended trips to Chicago and New York for the holidays, there’s no shortage for those looking to learn something new or plan a fun outing with friends.

10210402883_c784e4b779_cMinnetonka’s 49 community parks and 81 miles of sidewalks and trails also offer plenty of running room for residents. Among the most unique of these parks in Bennett Family Park which offers eight baseball diamonds of varying sizes and holds league games for baseball players of all ages.
With the majority of Minnetonka’s land being used for residential housing, there is certainly no shortage of homes to choose from. Whether you’re in the market for a starter home with close proximity to parks and trails or a fortress of luxury on the lake, Minnetonka’s spectrum could be considered for just about any type of buyer.

Parents will also find ways to participate at the center. The Maple Grove Farmers Market runs from June through October outdoors and provides fresh, vendor grown food as well as activities and entertainment for all ages. During the winter months, the market relocates to warmer weather indoors with a handful of dates in November and December.
