Cabin Fever Remedies – November

The first snowfall of the season is officially in the books (and on our driveways) and it’s never too early to start thinking of ways to stage off cabin fever this winter. While some of us are already instinctively pricing flights to warmer climates, like a bird migrating south, others are looking for activities within Minnesota borders to keep sane these next four to five to six months (snow in May should be illegal). So whether you’d rather find something indoors or you  like playing outside in the snow,  grab your boots, turn lemons into a lemon slushie, and head out the door this November to one of these events.

“Ahh, we meet again, old friend. What’s it been, five months?”

Acme Comedy Club

Considered one of the best comedy clubs in the country, Acme Comedy Club features top comedians as well as up-and-coming local acts to help you laugh away your winter blues. Open mic nights are held every Monday night and open for sign up for those brave enough to step up to the stage and test out their comedic abilities. Nick DiPaola is set to tape his next DVD special on Nov. 11 at the club and Duluth native Maria Bamford is scheduled for a 5 night, 7 show run beginning Nov. 19.

The Dinner Detective Interactive Murder Mystery Show

If you’re going out for dinner anyway, why not include some entertainment with your meal? The Dinner Detective Interactive Murder Mystery Show, help at The Hotel Minneapolis downtown, features a four-course dinner with an interactive and improvised comedic murder mystery act between each meal. A big part of the fun is that the actors aren’t dressed in costume so it’s not clear who’s a part of the show and who isn’t.

Lutsen Ski Resort

Okay, so being that we’re in Minnesota and all, we’re going to go outside and deal with the falling snow at some point. Lutsen Ski Resort is the perfect place for those in need of some outdoor fun in the snow. With over 1,000 acres to ski or snowboard, there’s certainly no shortage of trails for all ages and skill levels.

Fall Flower Show

What better way to fight off cabin fever or a bout of seasonal depression this winter than standing in a room of flowers that are in full bloom? The Fall Flower Show at The Sunken Garden at the Marjorie McNeely Conservatory at the Como Park Zoo in Saint Paul will feature many colors not usually found during a Minnesota winter with dark maroons accented by yellow, orange, and green mum flowers.

See a Movie

Awards season is just about here and there’s no better time to head to the theater and see one of the films that are going to take home a Golden Globe or Oscar. Lagoon Cinema and the recently renovated Uptown Theater offers showings of hard to find independent movies as well as the first chance at catching Oscar worthy films before they spread to a wider release.
